With photonics becoming essential to modern-day technology, WPI and Quinsigamond Community College have joined efforts to create a space that prepares students for future employment. New England Lab was selected to provide painted steel tables with either plastic laminate or epoxy resin work surfaces. Painted steel wall, floor and sink base cabinets were fixed in place while cabinets under lab tables were either on glides or casters to suit different mobility needs. Flex carts were furnished with ESD laminate tops to prevent any static build-up from affecting sensitive work. Knowing that the tables and workstations will be reconfigured to fit the needs of the students, custom overhead service carrier shelving was built to provide storage and services suspended from the ceiling. This allows for complete reconfiguration of the benches and equipment below. Additional equipment such as biosafety cabinets, gas cylinder cabinets and cylinder racks complete the space.
