ARCHITECT: Cooper Carry
CONTRACTOR: The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company
In order to encourage collaboration between the Cell Biology and Pharmacology departments, an open floor plan consisting of flexible furniture was provided by New England Lab. This included the adaptable freestanding bench systems fitted with epoxy work surfaces and the plain sliced White Oak cabinets. The wood base cabinets were fixed on nylon leveling glides and were utilized at low heights so that the work tops could be easily lowered. The freestanding bench systems easily quick-connect to overhead service panels. To meet future ADA requirements, some of the fume hoods with compliant fixtures were mounted to adjustable height fume hood tables, which have a cup sink enclosure. This allows for specialty mobile cabinets to be moved away and the hood can be lowered when needed. Environmental Control Rooms that keep specimens cool and control humidity were also supplied as part of the lab equipment scope. Additional fume hoods, flammable cabinets with self-closing doors, laser curtains, and stainless steel tables finished out the space.
