The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University worked with Suffolk Construction and SmithGroup for their new Boston, MA headquarters. To enhance teamwork among faculty and staff by creating an optimal workspace, New England Lab supplied products with key features including freestanding lab benches, movable cabinets, and ceiling service panels. These elements offer flexibility as they can be added, moved, or removed as needed. Each bench comes with two-tier adjustable shelving and a NOVUS utility bar which allows for unique benchtop organization. To create an inviting space that was more home-like than a lab workplace, a Quartered and Figured White Oak was used for lab casework fronts, which matched a variety of high-quality kitchen-inspired fixed wood and plam cabinets. These “kitchen for science” millwork areas had unique features like “garaged” mobile drawer units, removable trays, waste container pull-outs, and overhead storage cabinets. To ensure safety, High-performance RFV2 Series fume hoods can be used with a full open sash at low energy-saving face velocities.
