ARCHITECT: Elkus Manfredi
CONTRACTOR: Lee Kennedy Co.
As part of the One Simmons project, the university’s initiative to redesign the campus to allow for a more accessible and sustainable academic and residential experience, New England Lab was selected to provide lab furniture and fume hoods for Lefavour Hall and MCB West Wing spaces. The new facilities include teaching and faculty research spaces which house labs for neuroscience, bio/chem, anatomy and physiology, microgenetics, and chemistry. The faculty research spaces were equipped with Altus reconfigurable freestanding lab benches and painted steel mobile storage cabinets. The teaching spaces were purpose-built for each scientific discipline. For example, the Anatomy and Physiology lab utilized movable stainless-steel tables with stainless steel worktops while other classrooms featured bright white painted steel casework with dark gray epoxy work surfaces. The Nutrition Teaching Lab was equipped with all-stainless-steel casework and countertops to cater to the needs of the Department of Nutrition, demonstrating Simmons’ dedication to this area of study. In total, forty-four benchtop chemical fume hoods were provided and installed throughout the space to support classrooms and research as needed.
