The Fairchild Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology Laboratories project was LEED certified. This project featured the custom Optima Series bench system with Wakefield Series mobile cabinets and RFV2 Series high performance fume hoods. Environmental products included steel components with recycled content, Greenstone epoxy resin tops and certified wood core cabinet fronts with no added urea formaldehyde. To address energy savings, LED task lighting with occupancy sensors were integrated into the benches. High performance RFV2 fume hoods operating at 60ft/min were fitted with automatic sash closing systems that sense when the hood is unoccupied. With the ability to easily reconfigure benches and cabinets, and with the strength of steel, the laboratory will have a long lifespan, further reducing the environmental impact. Finishes for the project included quartered Anigre wood veneers, bright white steel components and graphite epoxy counter tops.
